NOBEL KOTY

PAINTING.

Born in 1988, Nobel Koty lives and works in Cotonou.

Since a young age, the artist is passionate about piano and drawing. Nobel Koty promptly turned towards painting, offering him “more possibilities and freedoms than drawing”.

In his works, the artist explores the potential and subtleties of self-portraits to materialize his perception of the world around him.

For Nobel, this type of figuration creates the possibility to introspect in a quest to find out about himself. Notions of identity, vulnerability and affirmation are essential to his artistic practices.

“The constant need to paint is a quest for self-discovery in order to better understand others, and therefore the world around me.”

The self-portrait reflects the artist’s pursuit of identity, but also raises questions about his future and the meaning of eternity.
