THIERRY OUSSOU

DRAWING / CONCEPTUAL ART.

Born in Allada, Benin in 1988, Thierry Oussou lives and works in  Amsterdam.

Thierry paints exclusively on black paper, creating mesmerizing large-scale works. His distinctive style, characterized by gestural marks, scratches, and drips, showcases distorted figures and symbols against the dark background.

Thierry Oussou’s art explores authenticity, history, and visibility, provoking reflection on the past and future. Through poetic commentaries, he crafts thought-provoking narratives that connect threads of our collective heritage.

He is currently  conducting and ongoing research on the lives of Beninese cotton plantation workers, shedding light on marginalized professions. By emphasizing different forms of labor, from cotton workers to public transport drivers, he brings attention to their significance in shaping society.
